We left Montgomery on May 25 destined for Cheaha State Park in Delta, AL. As this park contains the highest point in the entire state, we really put Roemer II through a test climbing up there! SR49 was steep, narrow and winding. At one point we noted a grade of 8%, Roemer II was in 2nd gear, and Bill had the gas pedal floored just to keep her climbing. A bit harrowing in parts, but a successful trip! We camped in a decent pull through site, nice and level, and somewhat private.
The park was beautiful with multiple hiking trails that led to lookouts and waterfalls. And the camp store had some fun beer!!
We spent 3 nights at Cheaha, and thankfully the first 2 days were rain free! On departure day, of course, we were not so lucky. We had to head down those steep mountain roads through clouds and rain. We opted not to hook the truck up until we got to level ground so Roemer II and Bill could tackle the descent unencumbered. They did a great job (although it looked intimidating at times from my perspective!)!!
